For almost 30 years, we’ve been a roastery built on the shoulders of committed people — from crop to cup.It’s this commitment and passion that’s led us to all four corners of the world, sourcing beans over a handshake and supporting a community of growers we know and trust.

Little Things Matter - Our Origin

Hummingbird Coffee has been brewing social goodness for 20 years. It’s in our DNA. We believe small choices can have a big impact. You can make a difference through your daily actions, one cup at a time, by choosing coffee that helps deliver positive effects to local communities. It’s the little things that matter.

Does good coffee taste better? We think so.

In 2004 Hummingbird became a champion of fair trade in New Zealand, being one of the first roasters in partnership with Trade Aid to directly import fair trade, organic, green coffee beans.

Christchurch is our origin. We’re proud our coffee helped pick the city up.

Following the devastating 2011 earthquakes that destroyed Christchurch’s CBD, we established a pop-up café in the Re:Start container mall, helping to revitalise the inner city block. A new Re:Start coffee blend was created, where 30 cents from every 200g pack was donated to help rebuild the badly damaged Court Theatre. You can do a lot with a tiny coffee bean. The little things add up.

The best option for our communities might not be the fastest or cheapest but it’s the right thing to do – and also happens to create some of the most distinctive coffees.Right from the start, Hummingbird has been built on real relationships. We source specialty grade coffee beans from farmers we know and trust, and give back to our communities through on-going financial support. People are involved at every step of making our coffee, from selecting beans at the source, to roasting – where we roast each origin and then blend.

At Hummingbird we source 100% fair trade organic specialty grade coffee through growers we know and trust. The quality of coffee is everything to us. We deliver high quality coffee every time, with no compromise.

The packaging from your coffee shouldn’t be your problem. We do the right thing for our consumers and customers, which is why our entire Hummingbird Coffee range is soft plastics recyclable.
