THE PATH OF THE TEA PLANT TO YOUR CUP

Tea is a beverage that has been enjoyed for centuries all around the world. But behind that single cup of tea lies an entire process. Curious how a tea plant becomes a tea moment?

2. PICKING

Once the tea plant is mature, we hand-pick the leaves. This is done in three different ways: fine, medium, and coarse.

3. WITHERING

Next, we spread the tea out on racks and blow ambient air through the leaves. This makes the leaves soft, supple, and less moist.

4. ROLLING

We roll the leaves for about half an hour between two horizontally grinding surfaces. The tea leaves break, releasing the leaf juice.

5. FERMENTING

We place the rolled leaves in trays in a special fermentation room. The color changes to reddish-brown and the distinctive tea aroma develops.

6. DRYING

We dry the tea leaves at a temperature of around 110 degrees. This stops the oxidation process. The tea is now dark in color.

7. SORTING

After drying, we sort the tea by size. We do this using a large sieve. The tea leaves are then processed into one of our blends.

8. BLENDING

Our Master Blenders select the tea varieties based on taste and quality. Only then do we blend them into our signature mixes. A single blend can require as many as 20 to 30 different types of tea!

9. PACKAGING

After the entire process from planting to blending, we package each tea variety in its own unique packaging, for protection and recognition.

WHERE DOES TEA COME FROM?

Tea comes from all over the world, but Pickwick sources most of it from India, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. These countries have the perfect climate and high-altitude plantations, which make the tea especially flavorful. India, for example, produces the well-known Assam and Darjeeling teas, while China, the birthplace of tea, offers an enormous variety of types. Sri Lanka is globally renowned for its Ceylon tea, and Indonesia produces various teas with unique flavors.
