Is coffee at work mandatory?

Coffee or tea at work may seem obvious. It feels almost as much a part of the workday as your laptop or your desk. But is that really so logical? And are you, as an employer, actually required to provide coffee at work?

Coffee and other beverages at work

As an employer, you are required to provide water—tap or bottled—at no additional cost. For other beverages, the rules vary depending on the circumstances: in the construction sector, cold drinks are mandatory starting at 25 °C, while in office environments, they only become mandatory from 30 °C. You must offer hot drinks such as coffee or tea when work is carried out outdoors at temperatures below 5 °C. However, coffee at work goes beyond legislation; above all, it is a sign of hospitality and appreciation toward colleagues, customers, and guests.

Social interaction

Coffee connects people; it brings colleagues closer together and creates opportunities for meaningful conversations. It is also the perfect icebreaker during client meetings. That’s something you’d want within your organization too, right?

A nice bonus for your colleagues

Coffee at work is not mandatory, but just imagine how your colleagues would react if there were no coffee anymore. With good coffee, you show appreciation for your colleagues, employees, customers, and guests. And of course, you serve them only the very best coffee.

Increased concentration

It’s no coincidence that coffee is called “black gold.” Thanks to the caffeine, coffee increases your concentration and productivity. In this way, the black gold helps you and your colleagues get the best out of yourselves every day.
